Political Asylum is granted by the United States to people who have suffered persecution or fear of persecution due to: -Race -Religion -Nationality -Membership in a particular social group -Political opinion You must apply for Asylum within one year of entering the United States. Your spouse and unmarried underage children may be included in your application. Many people in Removal Proceedings attempt to apply for Asylum to remain in the United States claiming fear from gangs or drug cartels. These are not reasons to have Asylum granted. Daniel L.
